A Prayer

The Portand metro area lays buried beneath an uncanny amount of snow bringing many of us joy and a unique kind of beauty. It's a wonderful powdery snow that is very uncommon on the valley floor, but I have been very enraptured by it. The other night, lying in my warm bed I felt a pang in my heart and uttered this prayer for those who may not be so grateful for this winter wonderland:

Lord, be with your people as they shiver in the cold tonight.
A shining white blanket of snow falls upon them as a cold, unwelcome fiend.
Lord, be with your people as they huddle under bridges tonight.
Their shoes and clothes and hair and noses are soggy bringing a threat of illness.
Lord, be with your people as they starve for nourishment tonight.
Their growling bellies go unheard amidst the bustle of holiday joy.
Lord, be with your people who are mourning great losses tonight.
The holidays must bring a fresh sting of sorrow.
Lord, light us up with a flame of joy as we quiet our hearts tonight.
May we shine upon your forgotten people, warm and bright.

Have a peaceful and joyful Christmas.
